HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT CROSSFIT?

When living in Chicago worked with a personal trainer named Melissa DiLeonardo.  I thought she was so amazing, strong, fit and beautiful and she did CrossFit.  She definitely motivated me to give it a try.

WHAT WERE YOUR GOALS WHEN YOU STARTED CROSSFIT?

I wanted to get stronger and develop some muscles!! I wanted to be able to enjoy all kinds of activities in life and not be limited by my physical fitness and stamina. I felt CrossFit would help me achieve and maintain that!

HOW HAS CROSSFIT DIFFERED FROM YOUR FORMER TRAINING?

I was a fitness instructor myself prior to joining CrossFit teaching dance fitness classes, kickboxing, and light weight classes.  I had never done a pull-up or thrown heavy weights around until I started CrossFit.

WHAT TYPE OF RESULTS HAVE YOU SEEN WITH CROSSFIT?

My whole outlook on what it means to be fit has changed. Obviously I have become physically more fit, have more muscle definition etc., but the results go far beyond that.  CrossFit also gives me an outlet for my heart and mind and centers me in a way that allows me to be so much more effective in the rest of my life.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR EXPERIENCE AT CROSSFIT HOBOKEN?

I have learned that my experience is what I make of it.  If I go in to OLY or a WOD with a shitty attitude, then guess what that workout will probably suck for me and I won’t have fun.  But if I go in with the positive attitude to honor my body, mind, and soul and do my best with where I am at on that day, I have a great experience regardless if I hit a new PR or Rx a workout.  Also I find it important to not take myself too seriously and celebrate small accomplishments! You will always see me having a mini dance party when I have accomplished a new goal or completed a good lift!!

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH IN THE NEXT YEAR IN YOUR OWN FITNESS?

I have strength goals for sure – hit over100lbs Snatch (I’m at 95) and get a darn bar muscle-up.  Knowing that I am stronger now at 40 then I ever was in my 20’s is exciting to me and extremely motivating.

 

NUTRITION QUESTON

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY OF FOOD LOOK LIKE YOUR YOU? I go by the 80/20 rule….so 80% of what I eat in a day is lean protein, veggies, and healthy carbs while 20% is whatever I have a craving for.  This way I never feel restricted and rarely have a binge moment (though pints of Halo Top Oatmeal Cookie ice cream have been known to disappear when I am around)!

HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT CROSSFIT?

My old boss would limp into the office and preach the gospel to me.

WHAT WERE YOUR GOALS WHEN YOU STARTED CROSSFIT?

To be consistently active in anyway possible.

HOW HAS CROSSFIT DIFFERED FROM YOUR FORMER TRAINING?

Greatly as my previous training included walking to my next snack and lifting it into my mouth.

WHAT TYPE OF RESULTS HAVE YOU SEEN WITH CROSSFIT?

I don’t even know how to quantify how much stronger I am but it’s a lot. During my first trial class I could not even run 200m without needing a break. I’m still very slow but I can at least keep my legs moving for a few miles before stopping to walk now.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR EXPERIENCE AT CROSSFIT HOBOKEN?

CFH is great. The coaches are knowledgeable and always keep everyone’s best interest in mind. The community is extremely welcoming and friendly – even to a super introverted person like me!

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH IN THE NEXT YEAR IN YOUR OWN FITNESS?

I generally just want to get stronger but specifically right now I am chasing a body weight snatch.

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY OF FOOD LOOK LIKE YOUR YOU?

I was shocked and disappointed to learn Swedish Fish are not considered a major food group. I have never been the cleanest eater but just started following RP Strength last month based on some other people that have seen success with it and the wonders of the internet.
