I have many, but in honor of Stephen Hawking (RIP) I’ll go with: “Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don’t just give up.”

How did you hear about CrossFit?
I had a couple friends from college who had started, and they loved the different workouts and community aspect of it.

What were your goals when you started CrossFit?
Initially it was to get stronger and to change up my weekly lifting schedule, but lately my goals are more about getting better at gymnastic and skill work (double unders, achieving a muscle-up, handstands–which is also a yoga goal of mine).

How has CrossFit differed from your former training?
I’ve always been athletic (I was a cheerleader from 6th grade through 2 years of college) and learned the basics of lifting during high school, but had never done Olympic lifts. Pre-CrossFit, I trained different muscle groups on different days of the week but would get so frustrated at equipment not being available at the overcrowded gyms in Hoboken that I’d end up leaving and going for a run. I also found myself falling into a routine and I just got bored.

Another difference now is the combination of cardio WHILE lifting, as opposed to lifting and then finishing with cardio. More bang for your buck.

What type of results have you seen with CrossFit?
I’ve have seen awesome results! I really feel like I am in the best shape of my life as far as strength and endurance. I realized this most recently from my performance at this year’s Open compared to last year’s, and it really is exciting. 🙂

How would you describe your experience at CrossFit Hoboken?
I love our gym! The coaches are so knowledgeable and will push you to go hard without compromising form. My go-to class is the weekday 6:30 AM, and it’s nice to see the same faces every morning.

What would you like to accomplish in the next year in your own fitness?
Gimme that muscle up!! And handstand walks.

What does a typical day of food look like for you?

  • Breakfast: Half an avocado on a slice of sweet potato with Trader Joe’s Everything But The Bagel seasoning (AMAZING), an egg, low fat cheddar cheese, endless Red Hot
  • Snacks: Apple and nut butter, yogurt with berries or banana, Quest or RX Bars, Kombucha tea, homemade bone broth, protein shakes, homemade fruit & nut bars
  • Lunch: Typically a hearty soup I’ll slow cook on Sunday
  • Dinner: Steamed greens, smoked salmon, chicken, or shrimp, roasted veggies and olive oil, sauerkraut (all about that gut health)

Saturdays are for pizza. Life’s about balance! 🙂

How did you hear about CrossFit?
I watched one of the Games on ESPN back when it first became mainstream.

What were your goals when you started CrossFit?
My goals were to increase my upper body strength and discipline as it concerns to my overall fitness.

How has CrossFit differed from your former training?
I’ve been an athlete for most of my life but I never was into lifting weights or belonging to a gym. CrossFit differed because you really feel like you are a part of a community/family.

What type of results have you seen with CrossFit?
I’ve seen an increase in my mobility and overall strength. It feels good when you finally are able to do an exercise you struggled to complete only months before.

How would you describe your experience at CrossFit Hoboken
My experience has been excellent. I live in Jersey City Heights so it’s very convenient. The coaches are very informed and are really there to help you get better.

What would you like to accomplish in the next year in your own fitness?
My personal goals are to be able to complete a bar/ring muscle-up, 100 double unders without whipping my arms, and handstand push-ups.

What does a typical day of food look like for you?
I usually don’t eat breakfast. I have a very large lunch and dinner. I eat a lot of greens and fruits daily. I have also cut soda out of my diet.  Water, water, and more water. Oh and a protein shake after every CrossFit workout.
