Why did you start Crossfit? One day I was just sitting there and I said to myself that I was not happy with the way I looked and my lack of fitness. Having someone close to me be a part of the Crossfit Community helped push me to become a member. I look back and truly wish I had started sooner.
What were your goals when you started Crossfit? My ultimate goal is to become stronger and healthier. I want to be happier with the way I looked and feel about myself. Coming in and getting to lift something that I never thought I would be able to do helps push me to continue to work hard and reach those goals.
How has Crossfit differed from your former training? I went to a typical gym and did the classes they offered sometimes. I would “try” to use the weights but was never confident enough to stay. (Bros can be scary) I now have confidence to walk into our gym and lift without overthinking it.
What type of results have you seen with Crossfit? I have a lot to work on but I am so much stronger than I ever thought I would be.
How would you describe your experience at Crossfit Hoboken? I feel like I am part of a strong community. Everyone is each other’s biggest cheerleader. Shout out to 5:30am – everyone pushes each other early in the morning even when we all wish we were still sleeping.
Any advice for new members? Don’t give up. It can be hard but there are always modifications that are really helpful.
What would you like to accomplish in the next year in your own fitness? Getting a pull up without a band and consistent double unders!
What does a typical day of food look like for you?
Morning – pre-workout, protein shake, breakfast frittata.
Afternoon – chicken and rice, various pre-made snacks when needed.
Dinner – Lean meat and vegetables.

Favorite Quote: Don’t stop when it gets hard, Stop when you’re done. If it don’t challenge you, it won’t change you.
Why did you start Crossfit? Was looking for a better way to train for obstacle course races. My roommate, Jonathan Yuko, started at CFH about 6 months prior. His enthusiasm and the results he was getting almost daily made me want to give it a shot. We’re in each other’s corner, but trying to keep up with the intensity he puts into every WOD has definitely pushed me to be better. Plus, a little in-house rivalry makes it a lot more fun!
What were your goals when you started Crossfit? learn double-unders and how to do a kipping pull up
How has Crossfit differed from your former training? the biggest difference is the community aspect. at a regular gym, you put your headphones on, do your thing, and go home. Here, everyone comes in with the same mindset ready to put in the work. There’s a respect amongst crossfitters so when we see one of our own struggling we gather around to give them support and encouragement.
What type of results have you seen with Crossfit? Having not done a lot of the lifts we do since High School, it’s been great to relearn the mechanics and see my strength coming back. In the short time i’ve been doing this i can say with 100% confidence i am in the best shape of my life. It’s great to have the competitive drive again too, not just with other athletes but internally. However, my favorite accomplishment has definitely been Double Unders. It was my goal on Day 1 and I am proud to say 6 months later I can do 10-20 unbroken!!
How would you describe your experience at Crossfit Hoboken? Everyone, from the coaches to the athletes, are all there to help us achieve our full potential. As intense and intimidating as the workouts can be, it’s the people that make it fun. Reminds me of playing football back in highschool, that feeling of being part of a team and working hard not just for yourself but for everyone at CFH.
Any advice for new members? Be patient and never quit. Just because you didn’t get it today doesn’t mean you won’t get it eventually. the coaches and other athletes have all been there and will help you out. Hard work pays off….oh! and your hands will stop ripping, in the meantime i suggest picking up some RipFix
What would you like to accomplish in the next year in your own fitness? My 1 year anniversary is Memorial Day, so… MURPH. also, would like to Handstand walk the entire main gym floor, 100 DU’s unbroken, and RX every workout
