Why did you start CrossFit?
I was bored of running on the treadmill!  I’ve competed in sports my entire life and I was on the crew team in college; after college, my workout routine became monotonous and boring (basically just running).  My friend told me about CrossFit, I signed up, and I never looked back.

What were your goals when you started CrossFit?
I wanted to get through a WOD without looking like an idiot.  I wanted to learn double unders and push-ups and pistols.  There are so many things I can do now that I couldn’t do five years ago, or even one year ago.  It’s kind of a nice feeling to look back and see that progress.

How has CrossFit differed from your former training?
Aside from the lifts we’d do with the crew team, I never really picked up weights; I was too intimidated! After college, I just did a lot of long distance running; it was very repetitive.  I love how the WODs are intense and constantly varied.

What type of results have you seen with CrossFit?
I’ve never felt stronger!  And I have something on my arm that kind of resembles a tricep! I look forward to working out; I feel my best right after a WOD (though I may not look like it).

How would you describe your experience at CrossFit Hoboken?
My experience at CFH has been so positive!  I learn something new every time I work out.  I’ve made some really great friends here and I love all of the coaches; it’s a positive community.  Everyone is really friendly and welcoming.

What advice would you give to new members?
Have fun!  And if you feel discouraged, just make little, attainable goals for yourself, and just keep trying (but not to the point of injury).

What would you like to accomplish in the next year in your own fitness?
There’s a lot I’d like to improve on.  I’d love to hit a #240 back squat.  I also need to work on strict body movements.

What does a typical day of food look like for you?
It really varies day to day, but I try to eat low carb and high protein.  And pizza.

Why did you start CrossFit?

I was searching for a new challenge that can help me push me past my limits, heighten my motivation, and reach my goals.

What were your goals when you started CrossFit?

My goals were to become fit, healthier, better educated of various types of physical activity as well as to learn more about technical movements. I also needed something else to give me additional motivation to continue to kick my cigarette smoking habit of 6 years.

How has CrossFit differed from your former training?

CrossFit was a total game changer. Prior to CrossFit, I would go to the gym a few days out of the week. I would go alone or sometimes with friends. Due to my lack of knowledge and training it was difficult to reach my goals.

What type of results have you seen with CrossFit?

With constantly varied, high functional movements, I have improved my physical well-being, cardio vascular fitness, and my mobility. I reached a level of fitness, I never imagined possible.

How would you describe your experience at CrossFit Hoboken

It’s the place that has made me a happier and better person (cheesy, but true!). The environment has always been accepting and encouraging. One of the best parts has been creating relationships with people that I love working out with, as well as spending time outside of CrossFit. The experience would not have been the same without some of the coaches that have recognized my potential and pushed me beyond my limits. Without that push, I would not have reached my current level of fitness.

What advice would you give to new members?

When I find out we have a new member in our class, I always try to talk to them at some point. Many new members say, “This is intimidating”. It is easy to feel discouraged when beginning a new journey around incredible athletes. I always let them know that I completely understand because I was in their position at one point. When I started, so many movements and goals felt impossible to successfully accomplish. I always let them know that as long as they stay persistent, motivated, and dedicated, the impossible becomes possible sooner than they would imagine.

What would you like to accomplish in the next year in your own fitness?
Move faster and lift heavier.

What does a typical day of food look like for you?

Most mornings, I will have some type of organic nutritional bar and water. Post-workouts, I will have a shake for recovery and protein. For lunch and dinner, I typically prepare nutritional foods that you can find on the food pyramid. At certain points of the day, I will snack, whether it is healthy or unhealthy because what is life without chocolate or icecream?!
